ESSENTIALS OF MEDICAL EDUCATION

Taught by experienced trainers, the two-part training (3 days each) focuses on methods of teaching, learning and assessment relevant to competence-based and learner-centred medical education. Its aim is to equip participants with the know-how for successful and effective teaching. The course is highly interactive and puts an emphasis on practical exercises paired with peer and trainer feedback. It facilitates the exchange of experiences and ideas, discussion with peers and trainers as well as reflection on teaching.

Topics include:          

  • Responsibilities and roles of medical teachers
  • Introduction to the physiology and psychology of learning and selected educational theories
  • Techniques of communication, motivation, and presentation
  • Planning lessons with effective use of methods and media
  • Effective lectures (microteaching and video feedback)
  • Facilitating small group learning: seminars, workplace-based learning (microteaching and video feedback)
  • Difficult situations in teaching
  • Assessment, evaluation, and feedback in medical education

Please note: The course is held in English and requires at least CEFR-level B2. It is equivalent to MQ I and meets the requirements of the Habilitation Regulation at other situ (e.g. Tübingen, Freiburg).

Target group: Medical doctors and scientists working in medical contexts, who favour English over German; or who are teaching or planning to teach in English.
