The Competence Centre for University Teaching in Medicine Baden-Württemberg
aims to assure quality in teaching and to improve it constantly. Founded with a start-up funding of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg - and recognized by the education law of Baden-Württemberg - the university overarching centre was established in 2001 and is ever since sustained at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tübingen.
Within the Competence Network of Teaching in Baden-Württemberg, the Competence Centre for University Teaching in Medicine is in close cooperation with the medical faculties of Freiburg, Ulm, Heidelberg and Mannheim.
Illuminating teaching demands professionalization in line with international standards. As a nationwide pioneer, the Centre in Tübingen developed a coherent qualification program for teachers, students and young scientists in medicine. Furthermore, the centre is setting benchmarks in medical teaching through publications, work in (specialized) political committees as well as by being the driving force for the national Medical Teaching Network.
Since 2012 we are supported by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) as a member of the joint project MERLIN (Medical Education Research- Researching teaching in the network Baden-Württemberg) through the quality agreement.
Reviewing all renewal proposals for the second funding period of the teaching quality agreement, the cooperative project MERLIN is part of the funded projects until 2020.
